What is Data SGP?
Data SGP is a software tool used to analyze longitudinal student assessment data. It creates statistical growth plots (SGPs), which provide visual evidence of a student’s progress relative to their academic peers. It combines a student’s standardized test scores with covariate information using an established “growth standard” from prior testing history. This allows for a more accurate measurement of growth than traditional percentile scores do.
A student’s SGP is calculated by comparing their growth to that of their academic peers across the nation, based on their most recent Star assessment and one previous test from another testing window. This makes it easier for educators to assess students based on how much improvement is necessary to meet achievement targets or goals they set themselves. It also helps schools articulate the amount of growth needed to reach proficiency and can serve as a powerful communication tool with stakeholders, demonstrating that there is enough time to get students to grade level.
SGP is unique in that it enables schools to establish multi-year growth standards based on official state achievement targets or goals. This allows for a clearer understanding of the amount of improvement required to achieve specific proficiency targets and can be used to communicate to students and parents that there is enough time to get students to proficiency despite competing priorities. SGP can help identify low achieving students and inform the development of interventions to accelerate their learning. It can also help educators articulate to their communities that achieving proficiency by the end of the school year is not enough and requires additional support to ensure that all students are ready to graduate.
The sgpdata package includes an example WIDE format data set that models the format for time dependent data used with lower level functions like studentGrowthPercentiles and studentGrowthProjections. It also contains a LONG format data set to assist in the conversion process. Both of these sets are anonymized.
Data governance is a broad concept that encompasses all aspects of managing data as an enterprise asset, from discovery and usage to oversight and disposal. It includes ensuring that data is being used securely, efficiently, and cost-effectively, enabling the organization to make the most of its investment in data. It also aims to improve data quality by providing the ability to locate, validate, and manage data.
In addition to storing and sharing information about student performance, data sgp also provides a way for teachers and parents to compare the growth of their children against other students in their district or region. This is an important tool for parents who are looking to support their children in a way that will maximize their learning opportunities and minimize distractions. The use of data sgp has been shown to increase parental engagement in their child’s education. In addition, it can help educators better understand the impact of their actions on student outcomes. It can even help teachers identify which strategies are most effective in helping students who struggle.
