The hk prize is awarded to those who have contributed significantly to Hong Kong’s scientific and technological development. It is open to all research fields, including Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Life and Health, New Materials and New Energy, Advanced Manufacturing and FinTech, among others. The winners will be rewarded with a HK$2,000,000 cash prize, a certificate and a trophy. The award ceremony will be held every year. Representatives from the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, sponsoring enterprises and celebrities will be invited as officiating guests.

The prize is designed to promote a scientific and standardized management of BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE. Its review procedures are formulated with a view to ensuring that the operation of the award is carried out professionally, objectively and fairly. Moreover, the operation of the prize is governed by a charter which sets out guidelines for its operations to ensure that it is free from any improper influence or interference.

This year, the Hong Kong Prize will reward individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the research in global Hong Kong Studies. The Society for Hong Kong Studies (SHKS) will be the award-granting body of this prize. SHKS is a non-profit professional association founded in 2018. Its membership comprises scholars, students and practitioners from across the world. The Society aims to advance the study of Hong Kong in all its aspects and to promote the international exchange of knowledge about Hong Kong.

This prize honours outstanding young Fellows who have published a paper with an original, innovative and significant research topic in any of the areas of medical sciences. Submissions should be published in the past 10 years. Only principal authors who have been elected Academy Fellow within the last 10 years are eligible for nomination.

The prestigious Shaw Prize has been won by the first Malaysian scientist in Hong Kong, Dr Thein Swee Lay. She and her team won the Prize in the category of Life Science and Medicine for their discovery of mechanisms underlying the fetal-to-adult haemoglobin switch, which makes it possible to develop revolutionary therapies against sickle cell anaemia and thalassemia. Universiti Malaya alumni and other Malaysians in Hong Kong gathered to celebrate the win.

In a bid to encourage filmmakers and film lovers to participate in the promotion of local culture, a series of film-related events will be organised by the Hong Kong Film Awards, which is one of the most well-known awards in Hong Kong. A film qualifies for the award if it is longer than an hour, has been commercially released in the territory in the previous calendar year and satisfies two of the following criteria: the director is a Hong Kong resident, at least one of the film companies is registered in Hong Kong and at least six members of the crew are Hong Kong residents. The films will also be judged on their artistic qualities and social messages. Besides the main prizes, the HKFA will also award several sub-prizes.
