The South China Morning Post won 12 prizes in the Hong Kong News Awards 2024, including the top award for Best Scoop. Senior reporter Edith Lin and news editor Jeffie Lam led the team, which also included Kahon Chan, Natalie Wong and Lilian Cheng, for their investigation into unauthorised structures being built on luxury properties. The newspaper also won three awards in the Science News Reporting category, with senior reporter Sammy Heung winning the honour for a story on the city’s smog crisis.

The 2023/24 racing season will see record levels of prize money and incentives. In particular, races over 1600m and further in Class 1 to Class 3 will carry a 10% premium in prize money compared to contests of a shorter distance, while the DBS x Manulife Million Challenge series will increase by HK$500,000 to a HK$1.5 million top prize for each winner. Adding the extra prize money for the Longines Hong Kong Cup and FWD Champions Day, the total amount of money on offer will be a record high for the world-class Hong Kong racing season.
