Data Hk Review
Data hk is a new MVNO licensed by the Hong Kong telecoms authority and run on the Three HK and China Mobile HK networks. It launched in December 2016. The SIM card can be purchased with a single roaming data allowance for one month or a year. The data can be used from the time of activation until midnight on the last day of validity. It supports roaming data only (including tethering). Voice, SMS and other services are not available. Top-ups are not possible.
The company focuses on cross border products for Hong Kong and mainland China and offers 3G/4G data packages in both countries. These are prepaid SIM cards with a separate data allocation for Mainland China and Macau which is often higher than local data allowance. They are a good option to bypass the Great Firewall of China.
The pricing is reasonable compared to other MVNOs and they offer a prepaid 4G/LTE SIM for HK$ 80 with a credit of HK$ 78 valid for 180 days and a HK$ 88 30 day package with a FUP of 15 GB after which usage is throttled to 128 kbps. This plan also includes a free tethering add-on. The SIM can be purchased online at csl. and at various shops, including 7-Eleven, 1O1O, Van Go and Circle K. It is also available from certain Indonesian grocery stores.
