Also nominated are three journalists, including lawmaker and activist Lam Wing-kee, who has been in detention since last summer for publishing articles criticising the mainland government’s treatment of Hong Kong.
The HK Prize for Scientific Research is open to Fellows of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine whose research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and who are currently at the peak of their careers. The research should be related to clinical practice and health care, with a potential for transforming into practical applications that benefit society. The award is divided into four categories: artificial intelligence and robotics, life and health, new materials and energy, and advanced manufacturing, with a maximum of five persons (or teams) being awarded in each field. The winner in each category will receive a monetary prize of HK$2,000,000, together with a certificate and a trophy.
