Earlier this year, she was the victim of a viral video rant by her ex-boyfriend—who, after a debate with other conservatives on C-Span, went on a vile tirade about how she’s a cruel person and should be banned from Twitter.
As a senior art history major, Sophia Jactel has already won two prestigious awards for her research. Last Fall, she presented her paper, Domesticities and Diversions: Josef Israels’ Smoker as a Model of Peasant Culture and the Role of Home in Nineteenth-Century Holland, at the Undergraduate Writing Conference. She then curated an exhibition of her research on Israels’ print for the art gallery, under the supervision of Professor Sally Cornelison.
In addition to the prestigious Sidney Cox Memorial Prize, which honors undergraduate writing that adheres to Sidney’s high standards of originality and integrity, the college has many other scholarships in Sidney’s name, including a fellowship specifically for women engineers. The college has also established a scholarship for students interested in pursuing graduate study in the history of technology.
